Our head consultant Chris with an epic capture……..

A fish known as Scarlett spinning the scales round to 41lb 12oz, caught on a ronnie rig made up of all our components which included our Size 4 wide gape BP’s, ronnie swivels, 2mm green shrink tube, micro hook swivels, hook beads, tungsten putty, size 11 ring swivels, quick links, Heli safety system, buffer beads and the soon to be released Stealth soft coated hooklink in 25lb weedy green.

A few words from Chris………..

After getting all 3 rods out I introduced a few catapults of bait new on all 3 spots, I’ve never been one to bait heavily so it was literally 20 baits over each rod. I had previously done well fishing hinge stiffs on pit 3, although I switched to using the ronnie rig last year and I have had some great results, I personally prefer using a wide gape hook over the conventional curve pattern as I have found the hook holds to be far better and stronger, especially the wide gape BP’s from DSD tackle.
It felt like I had literally just got in the sleeping bag after a long day at work and then getting set up when my middle rod was away, by the time I got to the rod it was stripping line off the spool, I picked up the rod and I was bent in to an angry carp that didn’t want to give itself up easily, I soon managed to slip the net under a mega old dark linear at 20lb.
With the help of my good pal Dan I managed to get the rod back out on the same spot. I fish really slack lines on pit 3 and so after putting the rod back on the rest I was occasionally peeling line off the spool, slowly slackening the line off. I put another 5 catapults of bait over the spot, it couldn’t have been 10 minute’s since getting the rod back out and it tore off again, I hadn’t even put my bobbin on as was still slackening off, this time the fish didn’t do much just slowly plodding in with some big, slow head lunges and trying to get it self in the weed beds, I kept steady pressure on it until it got near the net, where it started to wake up a little. It was early morning and still dark, I couldn’t see the fish and I gave Dan the netting duties as I wanted to keep the fish up in the water, I walked back a little in the swim until I see the fish finally go over the net cord.
As you can imagine, a few cheers took place before walking down to see what was in the net, I switched my head torch on and saw that it was big old Scarlett, Scarlett has a big pimple on one of her gill plates, hence the name “scarlett pimpernel”. Dan caught this fish just over 2 years ago at 34lb, not too long after I become fishery manager, so to see it come out at 41lb 12oz and in immaculate condition just added to the huge buzz of catching this immaculate common…..mega times with good people.
Big thanks to DSD Tackle for supplying with mega reliable end tackle.
